About Us.
Our Story
Driven by a passion for nurturing young talent and sharing the joy of music through the Suzuki method, Brookland Strings was born. After years of experience performing professionally and teaching at the college level, Dr. Megan Yanik sought to create a welcoming community-based studio in Northeast DC specifically for young violinists. This shift reflects a dedication to fostering the next generation of musicians through a method that emphasizes enjoyment and early childhood development.
Our Approach
At Brookland Strings, we believe that music education is an essential part of a child's development. Our philosophy centers on creating a nurturing environment where young violinists can discover the joy of music-making. We embrace the Suzuki method's focus on early exposure, parental involvement, and a supportive learning community. By building strong technical foundations and fostering a deep love for music, we empower our students to reach their full potential as musicians and individuals.
The Suzuki Method
The Suzuki Method is a unique approach to music education that focuses on creating a rich musical environment for children. Similar to how children learn their native language, Suzuki students learn through immersion, listening to recordings and imitating their teacher. This method emphasizes the importance of parental involvement, creating a supportive home environment for practice. By developing a deep love for music from a young age, Suzuki students build strong musical foundations and develop confidence as performers. More about the Suzuki Method.
