Meet Our Founder

Brookland Strings founder Dr. Megan Yanik is an acclaimed violinist/violist performer and educator based in Washington, DC. As a certified Suzuki teacher in both violin and viola with over 15 years of instruction experience, Megan founded Brookland Strings, a welcoming community studio for young violinists in Northeast DC.

Megan holds degrees in viola performance from Rice University and New England Conservatory, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Michigan. She has performed with orchestras across the US, including Detroit, Baltimore, and Boston Symphony Orchestras.

She has held teaching positions at Bowling Green State University, George Mason University, and Catholic University. She was a violin teaching artist and Chair of the Music Department at Capitol Hill Arts Workshop from 2011-2024 until founding Brookland Strings.
